Opportunity Solution Tree
Also known as: OST, opportunity solution tree
A map from a desired outcome down through customer opportunities to possible solutions — so you can see what you're betting on, and why.
Opportunity Solution Tree
An opportunity solution tree hangs a single outcome at the top, branches into the customer opportunities that could move it, and only then into solutions. It forces you to admit which problem a feature is actually serving.
I use it to kill the most common product failure: shipping a solution that was never tied to an opportunity anyone validated. If a proposed feature can’t be traced up the tree to a real outcome, that gap is the conversation — not the build.
