Formwork

Also known as: formwork systems, shuttering, falsework

The temporary mould that holds concrete until it can hold itself — invisible in the finished building, decisive for whether it gets built at all.

Formwork

Formwork is the mould concrete is poured into and the structure that supports it while it cures. Nobody sees it once the building stands, yet it sets the cost, the schedule, and the safety of the whole pour. I spent years designing it.

It’s a useful reminder for product people: the scaffolding that never ships — the discovery, the data model, the evaluation harness — often decides whether the visible thing succeeds.
